Welcome Centurions Classes of 2013 and 2014!
The Kick-off Social proved that we’re in for a fantastic year! Mentors and mentees should have met one on one by now. If you have not already done so please make an effort to meet before Retreat. The 2012-13 year officially begins with a mandatory retreat at The Elms in Excelsior Springs, MO,
beginning Wednesday, Sept 12 @ noon and ending Friday, Sept 14 @ noon
. The purpose of Retreat is to provide you with a better understanding of the Centurions leadership program and share with you how Centurions will work over the next year. During Retreat, you’ll get to know your fellow Centurions, learn about Task Force topics and Committees and decide which you’d like to be involved with. Of course, there will be some time for fun, too!
This email contains all you’ll need to help you prepare for Retreat, including a packing list, what to expect and a few other helpful tips.
Centurions Retreat 2012:
Dress comfortably! Take a vacation from your office wardrobe at The Elms – no suits, ties or business attire needed. Feel free to wear nice shirts, shorts, jeans and especially comfy shoes. Think company cookout.
You will receive a t-shirt at check in that you will be required to wear Thursday during the day.
Eat lunch before you arrive on Wednesday.
You may check in with the Retreat Committee starting at noon. We’ll get started right at 1:00 p.m., but no lunch will be served. If you want, carpool with your podmates and grab lunch at The Elms rockin’ restaurant! Or, since the space at the hotel is limited, you can just nosh in KC before heading to Excelsior Springs.
In the spirit of serving, admission to Retreat this year will be 5 items (canned goods, etc.) that can be donated to Harvesters.
The Elms check-in time is 3:00 p.m. You’ll be able to store your bags during the first few sessions. When you do check-in, they’ll ask for a credit card for any room incidentals.
Be present. The agenda provides for some free time between sessions for you to check email and make phones calls, but otherwise, plan on having limited access to phones and email. You’ll want to be as plugged into the people, info and activities at Retreat as possible, so plan to be mostly offline from work while we’re there.
Skits will be Wednesday evening and ‘80s Prom will be Thursday evening. Want to plan your ‘80s rockstar look? Try KC Costume, Re-Runs, Boomerang and Rock Candy Boutique. Need inspiration? Check out the Centurions ‘80s Prom board on Pinterest!

Finally, please remember to coordinate your Pod donations so that you can present them on Thursday to your assigned nonprofit organization (Turning Point, The Children’s Place, Community LINC, Rose Brooks Center).
