October Task Force: History of Kansas City

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the task force, Centurions will be able to speak knowledgeably about Kansas City history, which shapes and influences what Kansas City can and will become. Centurions will gain knowledge about the founding and settlement of Kansas City, as well as understand challenging periods of Kansas City history, such as the region’s role in the Civil War, the gangster/Pendergast era, desegregation and race issues, and the Hyatt disaster, among other issues. Centurions will study the history of significant areas of the city today, such as Union Station through the ages, the jazz scene, and 18th and Vine. Centurions will learn how the years have changed places like the West Bottoms, the old Northeast, Wyandotte and Johnson counties, and contributed to the rise and fall of Paseo Blvd.
