Class of 2011

FarmHouse International Fraternity, Inc.
Steering Committee

What does your company do and what is your role there?
I am the executive director of FarmHouse Fraternity’s national organization, headquartered here in Kansas City. In this role I provide strategic oversight to the programs and services offered to our 1,500 undergraduates on 40 campuses and our 29,000 living alumni. FarmHouse is an agriculturally-related men’s social fraternity founded in 1905 at the University of Missouri, whose motto “Builder of Men” seeks to develop men socially, morally, academically, spiritually and physically, with an emphasis on scholarship, leadership and service.

Other organizations you serve with: Nelson-Atkins Young Friends of Art Steering Committee and Party-Arty 2011 co-chair, Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Kansas, Board of Directors secretary and fundraising chair; Kansas City Society of Association Executives; Iowa 4-H Foundation, Board of Directors, Iowa State University Alumni Association Young Alumni Council

First job ever: Walking beans and detasseling corn on our family farm in southwest Iowa.

Political Issue you follow closely: Due to the nature of my work education issues and the for-profit higher education debate, financial aid, etc.; non-profit law/management and philanthropy trends.

What do you love about Kansas City? The sense of pride in our community, our commitment to service/giving, our strong work ethic and our can-do attitude.

Have you ever broken a bone? I think I’ve “broken” both big toes a couple times, but there’s not much they can do for toes, so I’ll say no.

Are you 3G or 4G (or do you know or care what that means)? I’m 3G – work provides my phone and under contract for another year.

Favorite sports teams: Iowa State Cyclones, Indiana Hoosier basketball, Wisconsin Badger football and hockey, Kansas City Chiefs, and Indianapolis Colts.

Kansas City place on your bucket list: St. Patrick’s Day parade followed by Kelly’s on St. Patrick’s Day.

Best Kansas City shortcut: I live in Prairie Village and seem to take Rockhill Road from Brookside/Waldo to get to the Plaza/Midtown a lot. Also with all the bridge construction on I-35 at the River, I take the Heart of America Bridge often as
a back-up.
